The Side arms and cross pieces are fully interchangeable and the system is ideal for tapestry/needlepoint or cross stitch projects. Symphony frames are made in England.
By choosing a side arm pack and a cross piece pack you can make a frame of up to 27 x 18 inches (69 x 46 cm). A side arm pack contains 2 arms with holes pre-drilled and metal fixings; a cross piece pack contains 2 rollers and the cross piece for clamping to a stand.
There are 7 roller variants from 9 inches (22 cm) to 27 inches (68 cm) and 3 sidebar variants from 12 inches (30 cm) to 18 inches (45 cm). (Sizes are nominal - please see lists below for more precise sizing).
Symphony frames have an extra cross piece which allows the frame to be clamped to a stand without touching your workpiece to prevent crushed or marked stitches. They also feature an ingenious system to grip the fabric without any sewing.
The nominal and actual sizes of some rollers are different - this list should give you an idea of the maximum width of fabric each roller size will fit, allowing for sidebar thickness:
- 9 inch rollers - fabric width 8.5 inch (21 cm)
- 12 inch rollers - fabric width 11.25 inch (28 cm)
- 15 inch rollers - fabric width 14.5 inch (36 cm)
- 18 inch rollers - fabric width 19.75 inch (50 cm)
- 21 inch rollers - fabric width 23.5 inch (59 cm)
- 24 inch rollers - fabric width 26.5 inch (67 cm)
- 27 inch rollers - fabric width 29.5 inch (75 cm)
The sidebars have holes drilled to accept the rollers and this means that the effective fabric height is less than the nominal size. This list has the maximum spacing between the roller centres for each sidebar size:
- 12 inch sidearm pack - rollers centre-centre 8.5 inch (21 cm)
- 14 inch sidearm pack - rollers centre-centre 10.5 inch (26 cm)
- 18 inch sidearm pack - rollers centre-centre 14.5 inch (37 cm)
(You can gain about 1.5 inches (4 cm) of extra 'height' by replacing the cross piece by one of the rollers - but then you will no longer have the separate clamp feature.)
Please note that airmail size restrictions make it impractical to ship the larger variants outside the United Kingdom.
